How does Acupuncture work?

According to Traditional Chinese medical theory, illness arises when the cyclical flow of Qi, the life energy flowing through our body, in the meridians becomes unbalanced or blocked. Acupuncture points are located along the pathways of energy known as meridians that connect all of our major organs. Different types of Acupuncture techniques performed on specific acupuncture points can re-balance and/or unblock the cyclical flow of Qi in the meridian system.

To get the most out of the treatment, keep a few things in mind:

  • Please show up on time

  • Eat a small meal 1-3 hours before treatment. Patients should not undergo acupuncture treatments on an empty stomach because it may cause lightheadedness.

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothes

  • Be sure to discuss any questions or concerns with your acupuncturist

  • Refrain from overexertion, drugs or alcohol for at least six hours after treatment

  • Follow your treatment plan between visits

  • Keep all of your appointments, as each visit builds upon the previous ones

Patients should also notify their practitioner if they have Hepatitis, HIV/AIDs or any other pre-existing conditions such as hemophilia, cancer, the flu, etc. so the practitioner can help manage the condition more successfully and take the necessary precautions during treatment.

Pregnant individuals must advise practitioners of their condition as certain precautions need to be taken.
